অর্ক মুখার্জি ১৯৮৭ সালের ৫ জুন পশ্চিমবঙ্গে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তিনি আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে দুই বছর বয়স থেকে তার পিতামাতার কাছ থেকে শাস্ত্রীয় সঙ্গীত চর্চা শুরু করেন।[৩] পরবর্তীতে তিনি দশ বছর বয়সে তার আনুষ্ঠানিক প্রশিক্ষণ ছেড়ে দেন এবং জ্যামিং ও অনুশীলনের মাধ্যমে সংগীত শিখেছিলেন। [৩] তিনি ফ্রান্স, ইংল্যান্ড, জার্মানি এবং পূর্ব ইউরোপের বিভিন্ন লোক ও জিপসি জ্যাজ সংগীতশিল্পী এবং ঐতিহ্যবাহী শিল্পীদের সাথে বাজিয়েছেন এবং সহযোগিতা করেছেন। ভারত, ইউরোপ, আমেরিকা, বাংলাদেশ এবং নেপাল সহ বিশ্বের অনেক সংগীত উৎসবে তিনি অংশ নিয়েছেন।[৩][১৬]

২০১৩ সালে তার প্রথম একক বাংলা লোক অ্যালবাম 'ঘাটের কথা' প্রকাশিত হয়। ২০১৫ সালে, তিনি ভারত এবং বিশ্বজুড়ে সংগীতশিল্পীদের সহযোগিতার উপর ভিত্তি করে একটি পরীক্ষামূলক লোক অ্যালবাম 'ফাইভ' নামে আরেকটি অ্যালবাম প্রকাশ করেন।[৮] ১০১৮ সালে, 'দ্য লায়ন অ্যান্ড দ্য হ্যামস্টার' নামে তার প্রথম মৌলিক বাদ্যযন্ত্রগত অ্যালবাম প্রকাশিত হয়েছিল।[৪] এটি একটি টেক্সট-ইমেজ-মিউজিক সম্পর্ক ভিত্তিক অ্যালবাম। ২০১৯ সালের শেষের দিকে, অর্ক কেবল ফিল্ড রেকর্ডিং ভিত্তিক অ্যালবাম 'বন্ধুর বাড়ি' প্রকাশ করে।[১৭] তিনি আইরিশ হার্প প্লেয়ার আনা তানভীরের সাথে 'ক্রসওভার' নামে ইন্দো-আইরিশ মিউজিক্যাল যুগল প্রকল্পের সহ-প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ছিলেন। সাউন্ডস্কেপে সেল্টিক, মাদাগাস্কান, আমেরিকান রুটস, জিপসি জ্যাজ, নেপালি, ভারতীয়, স্প্যানিশ, আফ্রো-কিউবান, সেনেগালিজ এবং পূর্ব-বাংলা গান অন্তর্ভুক্ত ছিল। এই প্রকল্পে, তারা ইয়ান বেউজুয়ান, লরেন্ট জেলার, অ্যালেক্স ভাউসিন, কেভিন গউবার্ন, রিতোবান দাস, গিনি মারে ডেভিড, প্রজেক্ট ক্যারাগস, বেন ক্রাকোয়ার, দীপ্তাংশু রায় এবং বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন সংগীতশিল্পীদের সাথে একত্রে কাজ করেছিলেন। [৪]
