English: This is story of a beautiful girl Sohni of 18th. century of Gujrat in Punjab. Sohni was unhappy with her marriage. His lover Mahiwal shifted on other side of river Chenab. She crosses the river with the help of earthen pot. Once her sister in law changed the earthen pitcher with unbaked earthen pot. That pitch dark night, river Chenab was in spate, when Sohni tried to cross the river with the help of the pitcher, it dissolved in the water and Sohni drowned. From the other side of the river, Mahiwal saw Sohni drowning and jumped into the river to save her and drowned as well.

The artist has painted the scene and Sohni and Mahiwal shown in the lightening from clouds. The Artist depicted one tree fall due to heavy storms and another closer one also fell.

This was a oil painting. A person from Russia purchased it in 1950s.
